First Evangelical Church, MemphisThe Rev. Dr. Howard Clark

Pastor, First Evangelical Church

Howard Clark was born in Anaheim, CA, and was raised among the Navajo Indians at Window Rock, AZ where his parents and grandparents served with the Navajo Bible School and Mission. It was there that, as a child, he gave his life to Jesus Christ. As a high school student he became convinced of God’s call upon his life while attending the First Baptist Church of Flagstaff, AZ.

Howard attended high school in Flagstaff, AZ. He studied radio and television production, music education, and sociology at John Brown University. He then attended Dallas Theological Seminary where he graduated with the degree Master of Theology in Bible Exposition. He completed his doctoral studies at Western Baptist Seminary, Portland, OR.

Dr. Clark's wife Kathy comes from a west Texas family of educators. Her father was the high school principal, and her mother taught 4th grade in Sundown, TX. She attended McMurray College in Abilene and followed her mother’s example as a 4th grade teacher. She was teaching in Irving, TX, when she and Howard met at a Bible study for young single adults in 1971. They were married in Dallas in 1972.

The Clarks have been blessed with three children. Jonathan, age 28, who graduated from John Brown University with a degree in communications, resides in Williamsburg, VA. Their second child, Kristen, went to be with the Lord at the age of 7 after an 18-month battle with leukemia. Kaitlyn, age 15, is in the 9th grade at Houston Middle School in Germantown, TN.

Dr. Clark served for 6 years as a chaplain to the Los Angeles Police Department and as Senior Pastor of Calvary Church of Pacific Palisades, CA; Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA; Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, TX; and First Baptist Church of Visalia, CA, before coming to First Evangelical Church in June of 2003.
